Elaine Perkins-Smith, known affectionately as “Mama Laine,” leads Mama Laine’s Sweets as Owner and Head Baker. We recognize her as the heart of our kitchen, where she oversees recipes, baking processes, and product quality with consistent care and attention to detail. She is especially known for her signature cookies, including chocolate chip, pecan, and toffee, which reflect both craftsmanship and a commitment to small-batch baking. Her approach centers on creating baked goods that feel thoughtful, familiar, and reliably well-made for every customer we serve.
We also value the welcoming presence she brings to our space. The name “Mama Laine,” given to her by UC Berkeley students, reflects the warmth and sense of belonging she extends to others. Through her leadership, we continue to prioritize quality ingredients, careful preparation, and a community-focused environment where every guest feels acknowledged and appreciated. Her work sets the tone for how we bake, serve, and connect each day.
